1% for the Planet x FTA

The fashion industry is one of the largest polluters in the world, accounting for roughly 10% of global carbon emissions. Clearly, it’s impact on the planet is enormous and one of the many reasons that both 1% for the Planet and Fashion Takes Action exist.

For 14 years, FTA has been working to identify barriers to sustainability – both within the fashion industry and with consumers – and then do what we can to remove those barriers.

As champions of both people and planet, FTA became a non-profit partner of 1% for The Planet in 2014 – a global movement inspiring businesses (and more recently, individuals!) to support environmental solutions through annual memberships and everyday actions.

Businesses that join 1% for the Planet commit to protecting the resources they rely on by giving 1% of gross sales each year to approved environmental non-profit partners through a variety of support.

“The intent of 1% for the Planet is to help fund … diverse environmental organizations so that collectively they can be a more powerful source in solving the world’s problems.”
— YVON CHOUINARD IN HIS BOOK “LET MY PEOPLE GO SURFING”

Since the launch of 1% for the Planet in 2002 by founders Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia and Craig Mathews of Blue Ribbon Flies, they have certified more than $250 million USD in support of approved environmental non-profits.

We recently chatted with a 1% member company who made a donation to our My Clothes My World fundraising campaign. They expressed that their membership to the 1% for the Planet program helped their business build a genuine commitment to environmental protection and that supporting our youth education program aligned perfectly with that commitment.

Are you or your company a 1% for the Planet member? If not, you can click here to find out more about joining. If yes, why not direct your support towards FTA!?
