Canadian textile artist Stephanie Fortin uses natural dyes and resist, to revitalize and refresh traditional craft techniques. Her mastery of colour touches both the functional and non functional worlds of art, design and fashion. Engaged in various projects at any given time, involving; fine craft art pieces, limited run production goods, consultation, education, collaboration and custom resist and dye.
Stephanie trained in interpretive illustration at Sheridan Institute and received her interdisciplinary BFA from NSCAD University, with focus in textiles and art history. Fortin held a full time artist-in-residence position at Harbourfront Centre (Toronto, ON) for three and a half years, during which time she launched Coeur De Lion Textiles – specializing in hand dyed and printed, home and fashion accessories until 2015. She became a full time member of The Contemporary Textile Studio Coop (Toronto, ON) following her residency and has since moved to a studio on Dupont St. in Toronto, ON. Stephanie has exhibited her work in North America, China and Mexico and has been the recipient of numerous honours and awards. She is currently creating and working on a series of weft ikat tapestries and remnant, pieced, dye paintings, thanks to the support of the Ontario Arts Council.
