Welcome to the Revolution!
On April 24th, 2015, people from over 60 countries around the world will come together to celebrate the second annual Fashion Revolution Day. The movement marks the anniversary of the Rana Plaza tragedy in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Fashion Takes Action (FTA) is taking the lead on the Canadian campaign, in addition to representatives reaching across the country.
How you can participate?
This year’s theme for Fashion Revolution Day is “Who Made My Clothes?” Consumers worldwide will be asked to wear their clothes inside out to build awareness about the fashion supply chain and support transparency in a industry shrouded in poor labour practices. In Toronto, local schools will be encouraging students to wear their clothes inside out and ask questions about where their clothes come from and how it is made. Canadians can join the movement by:
- Posting a selfie online while wearing an item of clothing inside out on April 24th and asking the brand you’re wearing, “who made my clothes?”
- On April 24th, also wear your clothes inside out. When someone asks you, “did you know your clothes are the wrong way?” You can say “Yep!” and spread the word.
- Using the hashtag #FashRev on social media, in addition to reposting articles concerning fair trade and ethical fashion.
- By following Fashion Revolution Canada on Facebook and Twitter @Fash_RevCAN and the global page @Fash_Rev.
This year Toronto is celebrating Fashion Revolution Day with Sew-ins happening across the city. At these events you can contribute to our chain of fabric by writing a meaningful message onto a piece of fabric and sewing it to the chain.
