The garment industry’s global workforce is supported by many types of formal and informal workers. Women make up the majority of this workforce and are in no way protected by any legal or regulatory framework. These precarious conditions make them vulnerable to abuse and exploitation.
Under international law, governments are responsible for protecting the rights of their citizens and residents, but failing that, corporations are being called on to address these issues through improved oversight of global supply chains.
