The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international non-profit organization that promotes responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC certification is a voluntary, third-party certification system that verifies that forest products have been produced in an environmentally and socially responsible way. FSC certification covers both natural and planted forests, and can be applied to a range of forest products, including timber, paper, and other forest-based materials. There are three certifications: 1.) Forest Management Certification (for forest owners and managers), 2.) Chain of Custody Certification (businesses manufacturing or trading forest products), 3.) Project Certification (buildings and construction projects).
