The goal was to not only demonstrate that sustainable fashion was FASHION, but to also inspire the designers to continue working with sustainable fabrics, and to raise money for Environmental Defence.
The 2007 runway presentation first held at Evergreen Brick Works was featured a week later at Toronto Fashion Week. Our 2008 event featured a day time sustainable marketplace, which was then converted to the evening Gala held in the Distillery District’s Fermenting Cellar.
The media coverage from this event was wild! It was covered by the dailies, fashion magazines and on broadcast TV, including Fashion Television. Kelly’s phone was ringing off the hook and her email inbox was cluttered with designers from across Canada wanting to learn how they could be more sustainable and what resources were available to them. It was then that Kelly realized the need for an industry organization to provide this kind of support and guidance to designers.
