The “Opening day of the giving season,” is a time when charities, companies and individuals join together and rally for their favourite causes. In the same way that retailers take part in Black Friday, the giving community comes together for GivingTuesday.
GivingTuesday harnesses the potential of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities; it provides a platform for them to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges. It also brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners – nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals – to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness. Across Canada and around the world, GivingTuesday unites communities by sharing our capacity to care for and empower one another.
OUR GOAL IS TO RAISE $2500
This would allow our program to be delivered to 10 schools in 2020 at no cost to them. This means that roughly 300 students between the ages of 8 and 17 will not only learn about the impacts of fashion, but they will feel empowered with the tools and solutions to make real change.
Your generous donation this GivingTuesday, will be put toward our youth education program, My Clothes My World. Any money we raise this year will be used to subsidize the cost of our workshops in schools located in Neighbourhood Improvement Areas in Toronto.
They will learn about the 7R’s of fashion – reduce, reuse, recycle AND repurpose, rent, repair and resale and how to be leaders in their community. We also equip them with the tools to host a school community clothing swap or drive, and they will learn how to better care for their clothes, because loved clothes last.
